General Notes

  • The Department of Politics and Governance offers academic collaboration frequently in education, specifically at the masters and doctorate programme. Presently, DPP has two such programmes: the Master of Human Rights and Democratisation Program (MHRD) and the Programme for Elections Management Education, working with the General Elections Commission of Indonesia and the Elections Monitoring Agency of Indonesia.
    • Master of Human Rights and Democratisation (MHRD) Programme
MHRD is a collaborative programme involving DPP and a consortium of Asian universities (Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University Thailand; Kathmandu School of Law, Nepal; Ateneo de Manila Law School, the Philippines; and University of Colombo Centre for the Study of Human Rights). This programme, with funding from the European Union, will continue until 2019. For the MHRD programme, students participate in one semester at IHRP and one semester at a partner university. Every year, DPP UGM receives six students. Scholarships are available through this programme. More information is available at
    • Programme for Elections Management Education
Working with the General Elections Commission (KPU) and Elections Monitoring Agency of Indonesia (BAWASLU), DPP offers its masters’ students a Programme for Elections Management Education. This programme is intended to improve the quality of human resources, to ensure professionalism, integrity, and accountability in Indonesia’s general elections, which can facilitate citizens’ exercising their right to vote following the principles of directness, generality, freedom, secrecy, honesty and fairness. This primarily benefits those responsible for holding Indonesian elections (KPU and BAWASLU), but also offers opportunities to the general public, including NGO activists and academics with an interest in elections and party management.
