Mada Sukmajati completed his undergraduate degree at the Politics and Government Programme, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UGM (1999), his master's degree at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan (2004), and his doctorate degree at Heidelberg University, Germany (2011). Presently, Mada is serving as the secretary of the Department of Politics and Government (2016–2021). His research interests include Political Parties, Election Management, Parliament, and Public Policy. He previously served as the chair of the Team for the Selection of the Election Monitoring Committee in Yogyakarta and Kulon Progo Regency for the 2017 elections. One of his books is Politik Uang di Indonesia: Pola Patronase dan Jaringan Klientelisme pada Pileg 2014 (Money Politics in Indonesia: Patronage and Clientelism in the 2014 Legislative Election, PolGov 2015).
